Warren Ferguson replaced Barney Fife as deputy on The Andy Griffith Show during the sixth season. His first episode, The Bazaar, originally aired on October 11, 1965. He appeared in eleven episodes before unceremoniously leaving Mayberry with nary an explanation. Oddly enough, Warren Ferguson is much derided by Andy Griffith Show fans and very little can be found about him in cyberspace. This humble page is to pay homage to the greatness of the Mayberry deputy who nearly pulled Otis onto the wagon and clamped down on Aunt Bee's bingo operation. Give Warren a chance--ya know what I mean, huh? huh? huh? |
The following is a list of the eleven episodes in which Warren Ferguson appears. For each, I have provided screen shots, synopses, and pro-Warren analyses you will not find anywhere else. You're going to return to this site, ya know what I mean, huh? huh? huh? Are you kiddin' me, don't kid me! Don't tell me you won't be back! You're probably even going to what-you-call bookmark it, huh? huh? huh? Sure you will. |

he was pretty cool, too! Jack Burns and Avery Schreiber Jack Burns is born and survives the Marines, Castro, and the Sixties! Jack Burns Biography Part Two Burns & Schreiber hit the big time in 1973 and break up in 1974. Burns finds success writing for a bunch of Muppets and kicks Andy Kaufman's you-know-what! SNL Season 2 (with Jack Burns's episode) is now available on DVD! Check out my review under "mwreview." |

Season 11 of The Simpsons, which includes Jack Burns as guest voice for the character Edward Christian in the premiere episode Beyond Blunderdome, is now out on DVD. His character is the Assistant VP of Finance and Distribution at Polystar Pictures who tries to destroy the alternate ending to Mr. Smith Goes To Washington that was masterminded by Mel Gibson and Homer Simpson. He even gets to ram The Road Warrior vehicle. In the commentary, Executive Producer Mike Scully introduces Burns as a "personal comedy idol of mine...still is one of the funniest men alive today." At the very end of the commentary is a tidbit on how this episode has changed Mr. Burns's life: "Jack says he's gotten a lot of mileage on cruise ships with women by telling them he was in The Simpsons with Mel Gibson" (giggity, giggity). |
I found the following quote from The Second City by Donna McCrohan, pg. 148: "Jack Burns was visiting Chicago at the time of the riots [Democratic National Convention in 1968]. 'I had been in The Andy Griffith Show, where I played Warren, the deputy sheriff. And I remember coming across the street from the Hilton Hotel, to the park where the kids were, and a cop said, 'Hey, you're Warren.' I said, 'Yeah.' He said, 'Well, stick around, we're going to kick some commie ass.' I said, 'I'm going over there, so you'll be kicking mine too.' And he sort of moaned, 'Warren, don't say that, please.'" |
Look who's on the Season 2, Disc 3 Episode Selection Screen! The selection screen is the best part of disc 5 of the Season 6 DVD set (actually I really like The County Clerk episode, the rest are blah). |
Thanks to hab101 for a head's up on this Season Two snafu!: TAGS fans who will only purchase the DVD box sets of the black and white seasons still cannot escape the mighty Warren! A photo of Warren and Andy from The Bazaar was mistakenly used on the selection screen of Disc Three for Season Two, BWA-HA-HA-HA! Don't worry. Warren is featured on a Selection Screen of the Season 6 set. He is on disc 5, again a disc on which he does not appear in a single episode (is Paramount teasing us Warren fans or what??). Adorable photo!! Someone at Paramount must really like Warren!!! |
Pacific Trading Cards put out three 110-card sets of Andy Griffith Show trading cards in 1990-91. Warren is featured on 5 of the cards (surely he deserved more but, I guess, we Warren fans must appreciate what few Warren tributes there are). Click the cards link to get a look at them! |

Want a sample of some vintage
Burns & Schreiber humor, huh? huh? huh? Of course you do, so
check out your local hippie-owned vinyl
record shop and be on the lookout for Burns & Schreiber
comedy albums. I will be
giving these suckers a spin and may provide a
synopsis for each in the future (provided I
understand them). You'll check out these records, won't ya, huh?
huh? huh? You'll visit those hippie record shops and search
for Burns & Schreiber; am I right, huh? huh? huh? Sure I am. Warning: B&S humor is not TAGS humor. If you feel you may be offended by racist slurs and overall irreverence, you may want to stick to the TAGS episode pages. I've included selected quotes with the more inflammatory words edited with symbols [*#@], but that may not be sufficient for some sensibilities. I find them more funny than offensive, but that's me. Anyway, consider this "A Warning From Warren." He has ESP, you know. Want to see Burns and Schreiber on video? Do ya, huh? huh? huh? Well, duh! Videos of several of their performances on The Hollywood Palace are available from Nostalgia Family Video. Click the link below to see screen shots from some of these appearances. A bootleg DVD of their July 23, 1967 appearance in Our Place is also kicking around the cyber marketplace. Click the link below for screen shots and brief synopses. Burns & Schreiber in Our Place Also check out TV Land weekend mornings (barring any marathons) for Burns and Schreiber appearances on The Flip Wilson Show Click the two links for some cool screen shots & some B&S style humor! |
Disclaimer: This is an
unofficial fansite run by a single fan, of no relation
to Mr. Burns, who was disappointed to see so little
of Jack Burns and Warren Ferguson in cyberspace. All
comments and episode analyses are meant to be for
fun. They are not meant to offend or to be taken
seriously. I have nothing against Barney Fife or the late Don Knotts.
Knotts, of course, was one of the greatest comedic actors ever
and Fife, as Warren himself proclaimed, is a "legend." This site
is meant to give Warren Ferguson "equal time." Contact the webmistress (is that a word? Sounds naughty. OK, lady webmaster) of "The Revenge of Warren Ferguson!" @ mwithing@gmail.com |
